Your Options & Setting your goals
Natural Fertility
You may be able to conceive naturally, thereby avoiding the cost and health risks that may be involved when undergoing IVF.
Therefore you should consider the following:
How long should I try to conceive naturally before undergoing IVF?
Have I done everything possible to eliminate technical issues by ruling out various gynecological issues, irregularities in menstrual cycle, partner’s sperm quality, etc?
Other considerations may include:
- Age
- The length of time you have been trying to conceive naturally
- Mental and emotional well-being
- Weight, etc
How Acupuncture can help you...
Acupuncture has been shown to improve the quality of:
Sperm, Eggs & Blastocysts.
and can also...
Improve the implantation rate,
Augment the developing fetus, and,
Protect against miscarriage.
How does Acupuncture work?
· By regulating micro blood circulation in the uterus & ovaries to assist follicle implantation by improving endometrial-lining integrity.
· Helps regulate hormones to assist follicle development - e.g. Progesterone estrogen levels to assist in thickening of the uterine lining, etc.
· Relaxes uterine and pelvic floor muscles to improve implantation.
· Eases stress and improves emotional well-being.
IVF
Making the decision….
Huge breakthroughs in IVF and other fertility-related technologies in recent years have advanced beyond our imagination.
Twenty years ago, if you were infertile, a fertility specialist would have told you, “Bad luck. Sorry, but you’ll never be able to have children”. Today, a large percentage of such cases will be able to have children.
The IVF process overcomes many of the potential causes of infertility. However, the area where more improvement is needed is in the rates of successful implantation - the process where the embryo is implanted into the uterine lining.
How does Acupuncture help improve IVF success rates?
Research suggests that acupuncture increases the success rate of implantation of the embryo at the time of IVF transfer, by regulating blood flow to the uterine lining. Several high-quality clinical studies have demonstrated significant improvements in implantation and pregnancy rates, particularly for couples that had a statistically lower chance of success.
Women who received Acupuncture as an adjunct to IVF also had an increased sense of well-being, a more positive outlook in relation to their cycle and were significantly less anxious after their transfer, as compared with patients who did not receive Acupuncture. They also demonstrated an increased capacity to cope with the stress of IVF and infertility treatments.
When IVF fails it can be extremely overwhelming, as it is the ‘last resort’ for infertile couples. Acupuncture, and in some cases Chinese herbal formulas and supplements and a lifestyle regimen, has been shown to assist with the quality and number of eggs, and sperm vitality & quantity. In cases where a concern may arise or where a few IVF cycles did not work as expected, more serious planning is necessary, applying the above described modules in a very comprehensive way; such as up to 3 months of acupuncture preparatory treatments, supplements, lifestyle and dietary changes. And in some extreme cases individualized Chinese herbal formulas may be prescribed. Many times, during those preparatory treatments, couples fall pregnant naturally.
